WBA/WBC middleweight champion Canelo will be looking to capture Jacobs’ IBF 160 lb title that he recently won last October in beating Sergiy Derevyanchenko to capture the vacant title.

Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) and Golovkin then fought to a controversial draw last September. Golovkin knocked out fill-in opponent Vanes Martirosyan in two rounds.

The bout is now off after Golovkin reportedly insisted on a 50-50 split of the purse after an initial agreement gave Alvarez 65 percent.

“If GGG ever comes to his senses we can fight next year if he wants for Cinco de Mayo,” De La Hoya told ESPN.com. “I tell you one thing: The money he would make for Canelo he now has to fight five or six opponents to make that kind of money. We’ve moved on.”
